How do I get a Tax File Number (TFN)?

Instructions

You can apply for a Tax File Number (TFN) through the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) or Australia Post.

You should receive your TFN within 28 days after submitting your application and required documents. You should contact the ATO if you have not received your TFN after 28 days.

Once you receive your TFN, you will need to supply it to the University by census date using the Services@Griffith Student Support Enquiry form. This will enable your fees to be deferred to your HELP loan.

TFN applications made less than a month before the census date

If you apply for a TFN (in order to access a HELP loan) less than a month before the census date, it is recommended that you obtain a 'Certificate of Application for a TFN' from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), or an Australia Post TFN application summary (with the matching barcoded receipt).

You need to submit this documentation as proof of your TFN application by the census date using the Services@Griffith Student Support Enquiry form.
